Ellis Island record shows Joseph Silkman age 57 made U.S.citizen in Boston 1913 travelling back to New York in 1923 living at 424 Bowdoin (Bowdon) St. Dorchester, Boston, Mass. 1920 census shown owning their home at same address.

Registered for WW1 in Boston on 5th June 1917 living at 170 Botolph Street, Boston working for Waitt & Bond, Columbia Ave, Boston as a Cigar Maker. Stated as Naturalized Citizen by his father. 5'10 tall, medium complexion, grey eyes & light brown hair. 1920 census again living with parents at 424 Bowdoin street, Boston. 1st July 1923 arrive at Liverpool on the 'Samaria' giving 27 Cannon Place, Brighton as visiting destination - (home of Aunt Rose Smith (Hall) ne Rees). Return to New York on the 'Tyrrhenia' from Southampton 6th September 1923. On 13th November 1923 traveled over from the USA on the 'Samaria' to Liverpool to marry cousin Rose Horton. On 6th May 1927 arrived at New York described as a 'Alien Veteran' from Southampton on the 'Aquitania' with wife and child Joseph with destination given as Los Angeles CA. Mrs A Reed at 24 Church Road, Hove UK given as their friend. Whilst he had no tickets to LA he had $10.000. (£78,000 in 2013). Commited suicide age 35 at the time of the birth of his second son. Buried just behind Smith family plot at Marlow Road Jewish cemetery London.
